Gai Lan with Chinese Mushrooms

I love chinese mushrooms, and gai lan because it reminds me of the dishes my grandma made for me when I was little.  This dish is pretty simple and its tastes great!

Ingredients:
100g of Gai Lan
10-20 Chinese Mushrooms
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
Tiny bit of brown sugar

Instructions:
1. Soak chinese mushrooms until they're soft (I usually soak them for a day)
2. Pour chinese mushrooms with the water they're soaked with into a pot, cook on medium heat until the water starts to boil
3. Add in 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce with the tiny bit of brown sugar
4. Boil the mushrooms until the sauce isn't so watery anymore (watch the stove here, mushrooms boil over very easily)
5. Blanch gai lan
6. Fish gai lan out and pour mushroom and sauce on top
7. Eat!

  1. Hi, thanks for following my blog! The above dish looks delicious. But I think it's not advisable to use the mushroom water to cook, because nowadays, we don't know what sort of 'stuff' is being put into the mushrooms to preserve them, more so if they're imported from C.....! What I normally do is to soak them for about an hour, then rinse and change the water and soak again till they're soft. It's not necessary to soak overnight. If time is a factor, you can use hot water, but discard the water, and squeeze out excess.
